“Experience is the Best Teacher”

Our eyes tear and our ears ring with noisy affirmations such as this. Perhaps you’ve heard plaudits about the kinship of like-minded people.

We all say stuff like this but when we get caught at it is embarrassing, not because of what we said but because our words were thoughtless; they were the mindless affirmations of group thinking.

One that I use a lot is the phrase “You always…”.

Another is “I hate….”

or

“If only..”.

(I hate it when I do that.)
