THE TRUTH ABOUT HONESTY, HONESTLY

THE TRUTH ABOUT HONESTY, HONESTLY

I was at my favorite meeting yesterday morning. We are a small group of fifteen or so people who try to live a spiritual life.

We invite a guest speaker who talks about his or her spiritual discoveries at the end of which talk a topic is forthcoming.

The chairperson mentioned that with only fifteen people, there would be two groups and that the smokers would congregate outside.

Our speaker gave a fascinating talk which included tales of watching the heavens from a sleeping bag in fifty countries around the world and a word or two about having once had a job but that he preferred traveling.

It was the speaker’s responsibility to choose a topic; the topic was HONESTY.

When we broke into groups I joined the smokers for the freedom that the patio had to offer. Our speaker joined us outside, he at one end of the table, I at the other.

So…

What does one say about HONESTY? The truth of any subject is hidden from us; that is to say that the truth of everything is guarded by the future. That is why we measure everything.

The truth of speed is measured in MPH or FPS. Life experience is measured in years, months perhaps seconds. But HONESTY?

A lie is easier to understand but like HONESTY it cannot be measured. Does HONESTY even exist? Perhaps if we subjected the quality of HONESTY  to the power of something else, but what? Perception perhaps? Or awareness?

Each of these words imply that perhaps there is no HONESTY, but what? Belief? If our beliefs change over time would not the person whose life is being guided by these beliefs have a change at least, in attitude?

Is attitude a synonym for HONESTY? A modifier? A quality? These were the thoughts I had and which I shared with the group. Our guest seemed puzzled by the change in what was now being said about this subject and when the metamorphous reached his end of the table,  agreed that HONESTY was a difficult topic.

Next week I think I’ll stay indoors. HONEST(L)Y.

Update: Perhaps SINCERELY.

“WHAT IS FORGIVENESS?”

Baruch Koritan

“WHAT IS FORGIVENESS?”

From a recent conversation:

He had searched for advice on how to handle one of the most troubling experience of his life. It was worse than losing a client. It was worse than losing a wife. it was worse than being told he had a life threatening disease. “What do I do?” he asked. (How could he not know the answer?) The answer came from an old friend; it was in the form of a question:

Q: “What is forgiveness?” came the ‘answer’ posing as a question. “Is not Forgiveness Love”?   “Is not Forgiveness the operative description of Love.

“It appears that Love is not a human thing. The human thing is surely Fear, also known as Dishonesty, is it not?.”

“Must not The Source of Love (and Forgiveness) be God? Is not the experience of Love ( and therefore Forgiveness) the result of accepting that Love?”

(According to Lao Tzu and the first Buddha, even an atheist can experience Love simply by doing Loving things for others).

To lose the Love of one’s children is incredibly painful. And though pain feels like a gift from The Liar of All Things, it  is in reality a ‘ Gift’ from The Giver of All Things.”

The bias of a lynch mob brought his  family together And He began againTo write.

The bias is the memory of a family not together and He began again To right… wrongs.

UNDERSTANDING THE AGNOSTIC “POINT OF VIEW”

From AGNOSTICISM AND ACCEPTANCE AND BILL W.
4 October 2014 https://thebleuglasvestibule.wordpress.com

“It is the Agnostic who speaks of  ‘God as I understand Him’.
It is the Agnostic who struggles to live a life free of bias.
It is the agnostic who sees the similarities between the Atheists in our society and the Fanatically Religious. And…
It is the Agnostic who says “I have no desire to change you; I believe that we all have the freedom to make those decisions for ourselves; I’m Okay/You’re Okay.”

What we say to ourselves determines what and who we believe.
How we say it determines who we are and what we are to become.”
