I commit to myself
And not to others
I say to myself
and not my brothers…
(I’ll do this.)
There is a demand placed on the individual member of any group.
The Group comes first.
(This is not a Chicken or Egg puzzle…)
The first member looks for a person of like mind and The Group evolves.
Subsequent members are sold on ideals such as Unity (Karl Marx) and loyalty (mankind’s oldest lie).
Put yourself first. (No,) I said, (that doesn’t sound right.)
Admit to yourself that you have always put yourself first. And then…
If you see someone who needs your help, try to find a way to do that without the object of your attention (or anyone else for that matter) discovering that you are for that moment in time, their benefactor.
Later, you may look back on that moment and discover that in fact you actually put yourself first when you weighed the pros and cons of helping someone who needed help. (Now don’t go feeling guilty; you must put yourself first; life is dangerous to every living thing. We do what we can.)
My thanks to the stranger who saved my life on November 15, 2014.
(He did what he could.)
It was enough.
